Covid-19 cases are again significantly increasing all around the globe.

Meetings at IEC CO and elsewhere

In view of the above, and until further notice, IEC meetings will continue to take place virtually.

This applies to both IEC standardization and the IEC CA Systems meetings. IEC standardization meetings are listed in the weekly updated IEC meetings & events pages,(except working group meetings) and links to IEC CA Systems meetings can be found on the right side of this page.

For meetings that are not listed, please contact the respective Chair or Convenor.

GM 2020

The 84^th IEC General Meeting will be held virtually from 9 to 20 November 2020. A detailed list of all virtual meetings can be found on the General Meeting website.

Training

Whenever possible training will be delivered by IEC Academy & Capacity Building virtually via webinars. No face-to-face training workshops are scheduled for the time being.

IEC Standards related to critical care ventilators made freely available

In support of the fight against Covid-19, and in coordination with ISO, the IEC continues to offer standards and most relevant normative references for critical ventilators free of charge to industries which want to convert their existing assembly lines to ventilator production. The standards can be requested via the IEC webstore where interested parties also find an FAQ and detailed conditions for use.

Situation in Switzerland

On 18 October 2020, the Swiss Government tightened national measures in an effort to slow the Covid-19 infection rate. In this context, the “special situation” continues to be effective in the whole country. In addition to previous measures, the Swiss Government now recommends the wearing of masks in all publicly accessible enclosed spaces, including public transport, restaurants, shops, theatres, etc. and recommends employers to allow their staff to work from home whenever possible.

Travellers arriving in Switzerland from countries and areas with a high risk of infection are required to go into mandatory quarantine. The list of countries and areas is regularly updated. A negative test result does not exempt travellers from the mandatory quarantine requirement or shorten the quarantine period. Failure to comply results in a fine of up to CHF 10 000. These measures will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, staff at IEC CO are now again working from home if possible. The aim is to continue to safeguard the health and wellbeing of IEC staff while ensuring the business continuity of the organization. We will continue to monitor the situation and adapt our measures as appropriate.
